Last Thursday night saw the second Tune in Tokyo event take place in downtown Los Angeles. To the uninitiated, Tune in Tokyo represents the LA area’s first regular night of all-Japanese popular music. With five different DJs all playing their own mixes of pop, rock, R&B, soul and dance music, there’s bound to be something to suit anyone’s taste. Who cares if you understand the lyrics or not?
Even the most seasoned fans of Japanese pop culture can always find something new to explore. This past weekend, thanks to collaboration with the Royal-T cafe, many were introduced to the Valley of the Dolls, the premier US retailer for Pullips, Blthye and Re-Ment dolls and figures. What are Pullips? I didn’t know either, until I trooped down to Royal-T on Sunday to investigate (and spin a few tunes as part of the Tune in Tokyo, DJ crew!).
